Fernando Rueda Rieu was born in Madrid and has a doctorate in Journalism from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He is the leading Spanish expert on espionage. He began his career as a research journalist at the newspaper Ya and the weekly Época, and was deputy editor of the magazines Tiempo and Interviú. In addition to his work in the print media, he has also been involved in radio, and has appeared on several television programs.
